MAHOMET - Rita M. Bartholomew, 89, formerly of Mahomet, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025, in Cisco.Rita was born Dec. 6, 1935, in Wellington, Kan., the daughter of Emery Ernest and Marie (McDonald) Shoup. She married Charles Lee Bartholomew on Aug. 17, 1957, in Lawrence, Kan. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents.She is survived by her children Lynn (Michael) Yeagle, Ed (Angie) Bartholomew, and Carole Leigh; her grandchildren Stephanie (Tyler) Haberstock, Chris (Sam) Yeagle, Leah (Wayne) Sears, Zack Bartholomew; her great-grandchildren Sereniti, Alexis, Theo, Walter; and her great-great-grandchild Sawyer.Rita was valedictorian of her Wellington High School class of 1953. Rita graduated from Kansas University (KU) with a bachelor of arts in Latin American Studies and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. KU is where she met and married Charles.
